Bertha lived in Oklahoma with her husband where they had two daughters and one son who was stillborn. During the dust bowl period of the Great Depression, the family's farm was not producing well enough to keep them afloat. Bertha and her family migrated to California, along with thousands of others. They found jobs picking fruits for little money. Eventually, Bertha's husband decided that he would rather die in Oklahoma than continue to be treated badly in California. Bertha tried to fight him, but he left in the middle of the night with their daughters, leaving Bertha alone. Bertha has not heard from them since this incident.

By Chapter 3, Bertha has become a part of the unionization movement, fighting for worker's rights.

Bertha can originally be found outside of Los Angeles, CA, and travels around in the [TBA]. She mainly asks for funny and hopeful stories from the Traveler. Upon reaching Chapter 3 with her, she gives you a carved peach pit that teleports you back to Los Angeles.

True Form[ | ]

Bertha's true form is her staking a pitchfork into the ground as dust swarms her.
